PRINCIPALITIES AND NATIONS IN PROPHESY

The word, principality has several implications, explained as follows;
1. A specific Power
Different powers of God are also referred to as principalities. For example, the principality of God is peace. Jesus is the prince of peace. It refers to a character with a functionality. The powers of darkness are indeed, also principalities, against which we fight(Eph 6:11.) These were the same principalities expressed as beast in Daniel 7 and 8. Watch how in DanieL 11, the same principalities are referred to as Kings. This is because Kings are the final authority of all principality, they wield the scepter of power, so to say.

2. A territory, Spiritual of physical.
Territories are occupied places of rulers of this world, physical and spiritual. This is irrespective of the stature. For example, while the United Nations Organisation has its territorial influence over all member countries, the individual member countries have their own individual territorial integrity, and within them are provinces, districts, and other local authorities, down to individual members of the community, who rightfully have their own form of integrity as human beings, and their rights as individuals.

Principalities present themselves in prophesies and dreams in various forms, as witnessed by Daniel, John in his revelation, among other prophets. The most common of these forms is that of beasts. It is interesting that even God appears flanked by the same kind of beastly representations as would be the case of Ezekiels vision(chapter 1). The devil is at a point in prophesy also represented as having once been a Cherubim in the garden of God.

The rise and fall of principalities is by the appointment of God, as all power cannot be, unless by Him. God is a God of order, and just because this age is under the rulers of darkness of this world, it is by no means lacking in structure and order, and clear accountability. That is why there is a judgement set for its own day, with God as the ultimate judge, even above all the rulers. For this reason, it is important to understand the times and seasons, and to know the principles set by God, by which even the rulers of this age are bound. This is all hidden in the word of God and understanding only comes from digesting knowledge previously deposited. Sometimes we get entrapped by snares of the devil by simple things like disobedience, which costs nothing other that self, something that should be dead in all Christians anyway. Look at such things as gain instead of as working for salvation. We are to be presented as gold before God and any impurities in the contents are removed by fire. This is one of the functions of a season of war.

A principality could also be a land mass, say a continent, the extents of a particular body of water or a collection of several at the same place, illustrated by islands like the Carribean islands of the Pacific ocean.

Weather patterns can also create a form of principality. So can currents and and seasons.

The word principality is therefore very fluid, and can be construed to even reflect a particular time period or an age. The same is perceive in scripture as Daniel interprets King Nebuchadrezzars dream of the five-part, metalic figure that was representative of five different time period of rule, which though would later be fulfilled in the times and in a later age in a different form, later represented in Daniel Chapter 7, 8 and 11.

All these functions of principality make interpretation of the prophesies of the bible very confusing. Putting tags on a particular place on the earth as the referenced principality is tricky. This functions is one of the major seals used in closing up prophesy. Let us take the lion for example. One place, it is the prophetic heritage of Judah(Gen 49:9), referred again as being responsible for laying Israel waste(done by Assyria(Jer 2:15,5:6.)) In Daniel 7, the lion is one of the major powers of the last days of the age, while in Revelations 5:5, Jesus is the Lion of Judah who takes over the reign of the Kingdoms in the end(Dan 7:9,14). This is actually a full cycle of a specific principality. For this reason, several nations can bear a similar reference in name, depending on their prophetic heritage, their beginning, or simply, the current state. This reference can further be shared with an age of a similar heritage. This is common with reference to the nation of Israel and the current age in general. The physical is often used as a similitude for the spiritual. This is especially the case for many nations of the world, and even the twelve tribes of Israel individually. All this is in an effort to seal the prophesies. The seal is broken when their fulfillment is very near, a reason why John was urged to leave most part of his prophesies unsealed. It is also why it is drastically different from the previous prophesies. He records the pictures of the principalities as they are in the spirit. The book of Hosea, for example, is as much written to the nations of this world and their spiritual principalities as it is written for the twelve tribes of Israel. Egypt would also represent the preceding age, and the coming is represented by the birth forth of Zion or the Earth(Is 66:8,9Rev 12:13). This was first fulfilled in 1948 by the birth of the new nation of Israel, the action itself becoming a prophesy on its own.

Whenever men come together in unity, they establish principalities. This is why the tower of babel brought a scattering by God. The same is also, actually why fellowship is important when with saints. Its also the reason why the church is often infiltrated by people whose sole purpose is to scatter the people. There are actually churches whose form of "expansion" is often like this. This is the scattering of the power of the believers.

Refer to the structure of the Kingdoms of this world.

Scriptural references, EXAMPLES:
Jeremiah 13:18
Say unto the king and to the queen, Humble yourselves, sit down: for your PRINCIPALITIES shall come down, [even] the crown of your glory.
